AboutVisitor Center

Who Am I?

I'm Jethro Chu, a BSN nursing student and I build software for fun. I'm interested in the space between healthcare, research, and technology.

Most of what I build starts with problems I've actually encountered, in hospitals, labs, or inside everyday tools that should have been easier to use. Nursing taught me to notice what makes systems less efficient.

This site is a small village of what I'm working on. When you look around, every building opens a real part of my portfolio: projects, experiments, writing, and the systems I'm learning to build.

Outside of Nursing

Running

I spend a lot of my free time running. I love to run races, seeing myself improve, and getting outside after a long day of studying.

Backpacking

The Yosemite artwork was inspired by my love for nature. I love backpacking and the mountains are one of my favorite places to be.

Caring for Family

I help care for my grandmother. Being on the family side of healthcare has given me a better understanding of what patients and their families deal with at home.

Building Things & Live Production

I like making things and figuring out how they work. I helped build Lab Logger at HackTech, where our team placed 4th.

Clinical Experience

Building a foundation in cardiac, critical-care, and telemetry nursing

Training overview

I am completing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Azusa Pacific University (expected graduation December 2026) as a new graduate nursing candidate. Through more than 560 clinical hours across six healthcare institutions in California and Hangzhou, China, I have cared for patients across cardiology, cardiac surgery, cardiac catheterization (cath lab), pediatric intensive care (PICU), bone marrow transplant, psychiatric, emergency, orthopedics, step-down/DOU, telemetry, and medical-surgical settings.

What I build

Live software, mostly solo, mostly born from healthcare and research. Some serious, some for fun, all shipped.

  • NurseJetnursejet.org

A daily clinical briefing for bedside nurses. It distills new nursing research, guideline changes, and safety alerts into short briefs, organized by your specialty from the ED to the NICU, with the exact source citation and a bedside takeaway on every one.

  • An adult medication-math practice lab for nursing education. It covers med-surg and critical-care calculations through category drills, progressive hints, worked solutions, and full-length simulation exams.

  • A ranked arterial blood gas interpretation trainer for nursing and healthcare education. It combines continuous practice, live rating updates, global ranks, and intervention-focused feedback.

  • Lab Loggerlab-logger.com

Winner of 4th place at HackTech. I helped shape Lab Logger into a tool that turns messy notes, voice entries, files, and PDFs into organized experiment records, focusing on making the product simple, trustworthy, and fast enough for researchers to use in the middle of real work.

  • Rate My Hospital Foodratemyhospitalfood.com

A review site for hospital cafeteria food. Search a hospital, read real reviews, and leave your own star rating, with the best and worst cafeterias ranked the way a food app would.

  • Emotion Stock Market Gameplay the game

Everyone says not to trade with your emotions, so I built a game that does the opposite. I made a fun game that uses your facial expressions to make trades. When you smile it buys a stock and when you frown it sells a stock.

How this village works

The village lives at /website. The reading and chatbot experience lives at /, where every project and section remains directly accessible.

Phaser, the tilemap, and the art live in their own code-split chunk at /website, so the reading path never downloads a game engine.

Inside the canvas, everything is placed by hand. Buildings and trees depth-sort against the hiker, the signs are supersampled canvas textures so they stay crisp at every zoom, and the atmosphere (light rays, fog, chimney smoke, birds) is a handful of cheap particles, not a shader stack. The HUD, minimap, and rooms are plain DOM, kept crisp and accessible.

I'm Jethro, a nursing student at Azusa Pacific University graduating in December 2026. I'm interested in critical care and cardiac nursing. I also like building websites and working on random projects when I have an idea I want to try.

Outside of nursing school, I like running, hiking, and backpacking. My current goal is to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
